Kingdom cardiovascular care and wellness center would love to partner with you as you work towards better health and wellness.

You ask “what can I do to start on the road to wellness?”

Wellness Tip #1

See your provider for routine health maintenance check-ups.

Keep up with screening visits( Colonoscopy, pap smears, mammograms, prostate exams, and immunizations.)   It’s much easier to get checked for disease than it is to start treatment for a disease that could have been prevented or caught early.

Wellness Tip #2

Make the decision to not smoke.

Smoking can impact not only your heart and the development of coronary artery disease and peripheral arterial disease but it can also impact your lungs and lead to emphysema/COPD and cancer.

Wellness Tip #3

Eat healthy…You are what you eat!

Fuel your body with good healthy foods that will help you maintain an active lifestyle and decrease your risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Cut back on red meat and fatty foods while increasing your vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Fish once or more per week and Olive oil will help to cut back on fats that are not healthy for your body. Always choose water over sugary drinks and highly caffeinated beverages. Cut back on sweet treats and processed foods. Cook flavorful at home and skip the fast food drive-throughs!

Wellness Tip #4

Control your food portion sizes.

Does your dinner plate need sideboards to keep all the food on your plate? If so, you’re eating too much! A portion is what you can fit in the Palm of your hand. Start to eat on smaller plates and try to stick to a single portion avoiding seconds and thirds!

Wellness Tip #5

Exercise regularly.

You can decrease your likelihood of developing coronary artery disease by 30% by going from a sedentary state to an active state. There are so many benefits to exercise: it lowers your blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels.

Exercise can also help to reduce stress and depression and improve your sleep. If you aren’t active, ask your doctor if you’re healthy enough to start an exercise regimen.

They may recommend you have a stress test to determine if exercise is appropriate for you.

Once cleared, let your goal be to exercise for 45 minutes at a moderate-intensity, 5 to 6 days per week. Remember, start slow and build to your goal. Exercise is a game changer as you work towards wellness and better health.

Wellness Tip #6

Decrease computer screen time and sitting time.

Set an alarm to get up and move!

Break those 10,000 steps per day up into smaller power-active bursts on a coffee break, lunch break, or after work before you head home! Get a device that tracks your movements. The more you move the better you feel!

Wellness Tip #7

Keep a healthy weight.

The heavier you are the more difficult it is to stay active.

Obesity in the United States is at an all-time high and diabetes as a result of obesity, is becoming a problem for children and young adults.

Central obesity also increases your risk for coronary artery disease.

Wellness Tip #8

Learn to manage stress and not let stress manage you.

Stress can lead to health issues such as hypertension, migraines, anxiety and heart attacks.

We all have stress but how we respond to stress will make or break us. Learn to detect when you are getting consumed with stressors and find ways to cope with the load you carry. Whether it be exercise, listening to music, prayer, going to a kickboxing class, singing, screaming or talking to a friend.

We have to fill the tank back up before the car will run.   Don’t run out of gas!

Wellness Tip #9

Abstain from alcohol and recreational drugs.

Both alcohol and recreational drugs can slowly start to affect your body and your health. Stimulants can greatly affect your heart. And sometimes can cause irreversible organ damage.

Steer clear of substances that could affect your health permanently!

Wellness Tip #10

Get your sleep.

Everyone is different but most people require between 6 to 8 hours of sleep per night.

Sleep helps to rejuvenate, restore and heal our bodies. If you snore or have periods where you stop breathing get checked for sleep apnea. This condition can significantly disturb your sleep quality and can lead to elevated blood pressure, swelling in your legs, heart failure, and abnormal heart rhythms.
